Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information the Barkeep macOS app and the barkeepmac.com website do and do not collect. The short version: the app collects nothing at all, and the website collects nothing beyond what its advertising provider sets in your browser.

The Barkeep app

The Barkeep macOS application does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. It has:

• No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and no login.
• No analytics or telemetry. Usage is not tracked, measured, or reported.
• No network connections. The app does not contact any server, including ours.
• No crash reporting. Nothing is sent anywhere if the app fails.

Your settings — which icons are hidden, your groups, your keyboard shortcut — are stored locally on your Mac in the standard macOS preferences system and never leave your device.

About the optional Accessibility permission

Barkeep's grouping feature can ask for macOS Accessibility access. This is used solely to read which application each menu bar icon belongs to, and to open an icon's own menu when you choose it from a group. This information is used in memory to draw the interface and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. Hiding icons, the system monitor and the keyboard shortcut require no permissions at all, and you can decline Accessibility and still use them.

Barkeep is open source. You can verify all of the above by reading the code at github.com/cybertuna/barkeep.

This website

barkeepmac.com is a set of static pages describing the app. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not operate contact forms, newsletters, or comment systems, so we collect no personal information directly.

The site is hosted by Netlify, which — like all web hosts — processes standard technical information such as IP addresses and browser user-agent strings in order to serve pages and maintain security. Downloads are hosted by GitHub, so following a download link takes you to GitHub, where their own privacy policy applies.

Advertising & cookies

This site shows ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.

Visitors in regions such as the EU/UK/EEA are shown a consent prompt before personalized ads load, in line with Google's requirements.
